Sad news today. Learnt of the demise of Dave Dee, of DAVE DEE, DOZY BEAKY MICK and TITCH fame. Dave had been ill for quite some time and in a way it was expected. Another victim of the big C. It still comes as a shock all the same.
Dave was one of the more colourful and vibrant personalties on the musical nostalgia circuit that we in the Fortunes work in.He guaranteed to bring a smile to everyones face when he was around and we always looked forward to working alongside Dave and Dozys. His larger than life personality ensured a great stage presence and he never gave less than 100%. Ever since his diagnosis some years ago Dave had been literally fighting for his life trying all kinds of cures. He never allowed his illness to get in the way of his work and perhaps was able to extend his qualilty of life longer than expected.Dave wasn't a quitter and continued performing until close to the end. His sunny disposition and outstanding bravery in the face of such adversity was an inspiration to us all and made us count our blessings.
His career not only included his time as a pop star, but he also had a spell on the business side of the music industry when head of A+R at WEA records UK, where he was responsible for signing several hit recording artists. He came back to do live appearances in his own right and also with the Dozy's in the eighties, and was particularly popular on the continent. Dave and his "Xanadu" whip will be greatly missed.
