Resistance is futile. You will reduce consumption.
As an adjunct to my last post, I notice that Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is now intending to put "Smart Power Meters in every home so we can monitor how much power we are using. Old style meters will be ripped out and replaced with these new gadgets which are programmed to turn appliances on and off, taking advantage of off-peak times to save power. (Won't this just result in off-peak times becoming peak times?)
Mobile phone technology will be used to transmit information on each families energy consumption to a centralized hub. i.e. Big brother will be watching you. The system will allow power companies to read meters remotely, thus doing away with estimated bills and meter readers. ( more lost jobs!)
These meters will allow consumers to see their energy usage on a daily basis and will everyone will be "encouraged" to cut back on consumption. Danger Will Robinson. Sounds like more centralized control to me and just the kind of thing I fear will be happened more and more. I predict a very controlled and monitored society in the future. For all our technological developments our grand parents had many more freedoms than we have today.
I will resist these measures as much as I can as I see no need for such control especially as it's all a direct result of this mass hysteria over Global Warming. I really am getting sick of this subject. Every day we have a daily diet of warnings combined with ludicrous solutions and recommendations, much of it fueled by the news media who regurgitate the latest apocalyptic scenarios which they have been fed by the powers that be. I was incredulous last week when a Holiday Company suggested that we all take responsible holidays when we fly to help stop global warming.! What the hell is a responsible holiday anyway? Their recommendation for a holiday of the month was to Australia...what's responsible about that?. Just a lot of ludicrous hyperbole. It would be interesting to see what would happen if these zealots really got their way and we all stopped flying completely. How would the airlines react, or the world tourist industries? Be careful, or you might get what you asked for.
Inevitably we are going to be inundated with this over the top reaction with the imminent Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, and the doom merchants are going to have a field day. For goodness sake everyone get a grip, climate changes.....except it, and except that there is nothing we can do about it.
